Interiors Inspo - Summer Selection By The Coast

A recent trip to the coast inspired me to create my summer selection of interiors. Coastal-inspired interiors can bring a refreshing and relaxing vibe to your space. Here are my take and ideas to get you started with your interior picks.

COLOUR PALETTE

Choose colours that reflect the beach and ocean. Think of shades like seafoam green, sandy beige, ocean blue, and sunny yellow. These colours can be used on walls, furniture, and accessories. My chosen emulsion is Limestone No.55 by Mylands. It’s a light grey with a slight tint of yellow and green to give a fresh and natural atmosphere to a room.

PLANTS AND GREENERY

Adding greenery to bring a touch of nature indoors is the norm. Plants like succulents, palms, and ferns will thrive in bright sunny environments. My take is to adorn your walls with nature-inspired prints. The Fern Gilver wallpaper by Little Greene has a decorative ‘fern’ silhouette. This nature-inspired print is effective, and uplifting and brings the outside in!

NATURAL MATERIALS AND TEXTURES

Incorporate natural materials such as driftwood, rattan, wicker, and jute. The Jute Runner with the Cream Accent Edge by Nordic Knots would sit perfectly in the entrance hall of your home. Natural plant fibres are tough, durable and age beautifully making ‘jute’ a practical addition to your space.

LIGHTING

Use light fixings that evoke the beach atmosphere. Lantern-style lights, pendant lights made of natural fibres, or string lights can add to coastal charm. The Retro Rope Weave Pendant by Lamps Modern will illuminate your living room, dining area or bedroom. Its curved shape reminds me of the straw hat you can’t live without on holiday!

TEXTILES

Use a mix of textures to create a cosy and inviting space. Think of linen or cotton for soft furnishings. They allow a beautiful diffused light to grace your space and the stripes are reminiscent of beach towels. Throw a cushion into the mix for comfort. Drape your armchair or sofa with an earthy or neutral-toned throw to elevate the overall aesthetic of your seating.

FURNITURE

Go for light-coloured or whitewashed wood furniture to give a beachy feel. Slip-covered sofas can also contribute to a relaxed coastal ambience. I, however, love the Velvet Lounge Chair with Walnut Plinth by Six The Residence. The rounded shape is reminiscent of pebbles framing the coastline. Upholstered in rich camel velvet, the natural brown hue is designed to create an inviting sense of warmth whilst grounded in nature.

ARTWORK

Decorate with coastal artwork or photography that captures beach scenes, ocean waves, and marine life. My take on artwork is a little on the abstract side. The modern shapes of the flesh-coloured artwork remind me of a geological beauty; the White Cliffs of Dover at sunset.

ACCESSORIES

Displaying seashells, coral, and beach glass in bowls, jars, or as part of a centrepiece is popular in coastal-inspired interiors. Make a stand with a charming footed bowl; it’s definitely on trend for 2024.
